UREEQA’s NFT Authenticator: Peace of Mind at Your Fingertips

At its core, UREEQA protects.

There’s a lot more to it, and we bring a lot more to the table in terms of management and monetization, of course. But we’re nothing without our ability to offer protection to both creators and consumers in a wild, continually evolving digital marketplace.

Our latest and greatest tool focuses squarely on that principle by making it easier than ever to verify the authenticity of a non-fungible token (NFT) via the UREEQA platform.

Say hello to UREEQA’s NFT Authenticator.

How does it work?

As always, we keep it as simple as possible. Any user can connect their digital wallet or a specific NFT’s smart contract and token ID, and our fancy new tool will analyze that information to determine if the NFT in question is authentic.

And of course, we’ll show our work. The initial version of the NFT Authenticator checks the smart contract that the NFT was minted on to ensure it is approved, it verifies copyright associated with creative work incorporated within the NFT (looking specifically at authorship, ownership and originality), and it examines the NFT for any redeemable rights and utilities that are connected to it.

Who can use it?

As a creator, you can utilize the NFT Authenticator in order to quickly and thoroughly prove to potential buyers that your UREEQA-validated work is legit.

As a potential buyer, you can take the verification process into your own hands and bypass the seller in order to get that assurance.

In the future, marketplaces could implement the NFT Authenticator into their own platforms and provide their users with increased protection. The possibilities are as limitless as the metaverse itself, but we’ll start by putting the tool’s ability on display for our early adopters.

Why is this so important?

Theft remains rampant in the NFT realm and remains relatively unpoliced. Nefarious online actors have been eager to take advantage of that reality, and many sadly see their crimes as victimless because so much of this new world is intangible.

“It’s kinda scary how easy it is to scam people,” artist Derek Laufman tweeted after he himself was ripped off on Rarible earlier this year. “Welcome to the future of art theft!”

Famously, millions of dollars were lost when the controversial cartoon character Pepe the Frog was pulled from OpenSea this summer. The silly little character had been widely appropriated by racist social groups, and its creator, Matt Furie, blew up the NFT space around it by claiming copyright theft by Alex Jones and other hate mongers. That case could have been made a hell of a lot easier with UREEQA’s toolbox at Furie’s disposal. We could have quickly established provable provenance, and those without the rights to that work wouldn’t have been able to swindle consumers on OpenSea or elsewhere.

It seems many are willing to pay lip service to verification of ownership claims, authenticity and provenance. But they’re not really putting in the work to protect creators or consumers, nor are they creating real products that can achieve the goal of establishing a real provenance investigation.

There are a multitude of ways in which we’re truly solving this problem, and the NFT Authenticator is an elementary example. And it’s our most easily accessible offering yet. It’s open to the public, and there’s no need for one to register or even identify themselves in order to use this service.

Where and when can I access it?

Right now right here!

Can I submit feedback?

Damn right you can! Please let us know how you feel about our latest toy here or on any of our other channels, particularly Telegram, Discord or Twitter. Regardless of whether you’re a creator, an NFT aficionado or a current or prospective UREEQA investor, we want your two cents.

About UREEQA

The UREEQA platform strives to protect Creators’ work, their rights and their revenue by harnessing the power of blockchain technology.

Established in Canada in 2020, UREEQA will modernize the inefficient and bureaucratic systems currently in place for copyright, patent, industrial design and trademark protection. By building a robust and compelling Package of Proof for source creative work, UREEQA only mints Validated NFTs to represent creative rights. This helps keep buyers safe by giving them confidence that the work they are purchasing was minted by the smart contract approved by the Creator of the work and is therefore authentic.

UREEQA provides value and opportunities for its Creators, Validators and Token holders via URQA, the token at the heart of the UREEQA ecosystem.
